Key Differences

Facebook Ads are a great way to reach out to potential customers on the world’s largest social network. With over 2 billion active users, Facebook offers a massive audience for your ad campaigns. Facebook Ads are a lot more visual, while LinkedIn Ads are all about text. Another great thing about Facebook Ads is that they’re relatively cheap. You can get started with as little as $5 per day. And if you’re on a tight budget, you can use Facebook’s “boost post” feature to get your content in front of more people.

LinkedIn Ads is all about text, and it’s geared towards professionals. LinkedIn Ads is the perfect platform for promoting B2B products and services. One of the best things about LinkedIn Ads is that it offers very granular targeting options. For example, you can target people by their job title, company size, or even location. LinkedIn Ads is that it’s not nearly as competitive as Facebook Ads. Since they are geared towards professionals, there are far fewer businesses using the platform.

The Right Platform

When you’re trying to decide if Facebook or LinkedIn is better for advertising ask yourself these questions: Who is my target market? What and how many segments are there in that target market? What is my ad spend? What is my ad potential in terms of design and aesthetics? If you’re looking for a more targeted approach, LinkedIn Ads is the way to go. However, be wary that the cost-per-lead will be significantly higher on LinkedIn than on Facebook Ads.

If you’re stuck on Facebook advertising vs. LinkedIn advertising, make sure you have clear answers to the questions above. To find out which platform works better for you I recommend planning test ads carefully to see which platform is right for your business.

Targeting Options

Facebook Ads offers a few different targeting options, including:

  • Location
  • Demographics
  • Interests
  • Behaviors

LinkedIn Ads, on the other hand, offer much more detailed targeting options, including:

  • Company size
  • Job title
  • Seniority
  • Skills
  • Groups

It makes sense that LinkedIn targeting choices are focused on being a working adult, while Facebook targeting choices let you be more specific with a bigger audience.

Cost to Run Ads on Facebook vs LinkedIn

Both social networks allow you to set your advertising prices, allowing both platforms to be cost-effective ad platforms. The two platforms have some differences in CPC pricing.

According to WebFX, the typical cost-per-click for a LinkedIn ad is $5.26, whereas that of a Facebook ad is just $0.97.

However, a higher cost does not necessarily imply a greater return on ad spend (ROAS).

Final Thoughts

Both Facebook Ads and LinkedIn Ads can be effective for advertising your business. It really depends on your business and what you’re trying to achieve. Try running a few ads on each platform and see which one gives you better results. Once you’ve determined which platform is best for your business, you can focus your advertising efforts on that one platform.
